Six Flags Over Georgia is flooded. In fact, most of the roller coasters and amusement park rides are drowning under the cold muddy water. The deadly storm that dropped over 20 inches to the southern states, has caused more than roller coasters flooding. The torrential rains have claimed seven lives as of this morning, with other still missing.

According to abcNews.com, "Six Flags Over Georgia is also now under water. In some places portions of the roller coaster tracks have
disappeared under brown, murky water."

"And the water is cold -- many of the people who have been pulled from the flood waters have hypothermia," abcnews.com continues.

At 7:15am, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution - ajc.com's minute-to-minute updates say,"Officials closed I-20 in a second location, at Fulton Industrial Boulevard near Six Flags, due to water covering the road. I-20 remained closed in Douglas County between Lee Road and Thornton Road. I-285 is closed between Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway and South Cobb Drive. And I-575 is closed in both directions at U.S. 92 in Cherokee County."

"Six Flags Over Georgia theme park located west of Atlanta, in unincorporated Cobb County, opened in 1967. It is the second park in the Six Flags chain, after the original opening in 1961 in Texas."

Six Flags Over Georgia, like most amusement parks, prides itself on its roller coaster collection. A new MySpace game has recently surfaced that is poised to give Mafia Wars some stiff competition. Named Bulletproof, the game offers players a number of advantages over Mafia Wars game, especially considering the recent frustration Zynga has caused for many of its players.
With Mafia game, you must endlessly get other MySpace game players to become friends with you on MySpace and then request approval to become family members inside the game. Your player’s strength is greatly affected by the number of family members you have. Bulletproof does not require this, which gives you a lot more time to actually play as well as preventing all the hassle of working to get all the family members (500).
Since your character in Mafia Game Wars should have so many family members, you also have to equip each with weapons, defense, and vehicles. Bulletproof only requires that you look out for yourself and build your own character.

Le, a 24-year-old pharmacology student from Placerville, California, who had planned to marry her college sweetheart on Sunday, was last seen walking into the research building at the University on September 9 before disappearing. Police said September 14, 2009 that they were hunting for a killer who hid a body that investigators found inside a laboratory wall of the building Sunday and that they believe the body to be that of the Le.

Annie Le, the Yale University graduate student killed days before her wedding, was strangled and a laboratory worker remains the only “person of interest” in the case, Connecticut authorities said today.

The cause of Le’s death was “traumatic asphyxiation due to neck compression,” said a statement from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Connecticut.

Police earlier today released Raymond Clark, a laboratory technician named in the investigation of the death of the 24- year-old Le, whose body was found Sept. 13 in a basement at the lab where she conducted research.

Clark, 24, who worked in the animal research lab where Le studied, had been held by police in New Haven, while they obtained a sample of his genetic material, New Haven Police Chief James Lewis said at a news conference. Clark left the station with his lawyer at about 3 a.m. today after he was held for five hours, the police said.

Clark did “custodial-type work” in the lab building, such as cleaning mouse cages, Lewis said.

The police chief declined to characterize any relationship between Le and Clark, other than to say, “They worked in the same building; they passed in the hallways.”

Police are working under the belief that Le died at the hands of one killer, Lewis said. The authorities are testing hundreds of items for possible DNA traces, and an arrest warrant could be obtained within a couple of hours if a match is returned, Lewis said.

No Prior Complaints

New Haven police said they hadn’t received any prior complaints about Clark.

“Never,” said officer Joseph Avery, a spokesman for the department, when asked in an interview if Clark had ever come to the department’s attention.

Asked if there were other suspects or people of interest police were investigating, Avery said, “We are looking at a lot of possibilities.”

Police left Clark’s apartment in Middletown, Connecticut, this morning after an overnight search. Clark was taken away from the apartment last night while neighbors leaned over a railing and cheered, residents said. Authorities towed away a red Ford Mustang that neighbors said Clark used, the Associated Press reported.

Police Warrant

Police had a warrant to take samples of Clark’s hair, saliva and fingernails for DNA testing, Lewis said. Clark will be arrested or cleared of the crime by the end of the week, the newspaper said, citing Lewis.

Le was last seen Sept. 8. Her body was found in a Yale School of Medicine research lab at 10 Amistad St. in New Haven five days later, on the day she was scheduled to be married.

Clark left his apartment with his companion, another technician at the Yale lab, around the time Le’s body was discovered, getting into a Ford Taurus and driving away, the New York Times reported, citing neighbors.

He hadn’t been at work for several days, the newspaper said, citing a researcher at the Yale lab who asked not to be identified. His sister and brother-in-law also work as animal research technicians at the laboratory, the Times reported.

Lewis said he wouldn’t speculate on a motive for the killing of Le.

Evidence Seized

Investigators pored over 700 hours of videotapes from surveillance cameras around the laboratory, interviewed more than 150 people and seized 250 pieces of evidence, much of which has been sent to forensic labs for testing, Lewis said.

Le, who was studying for a doctorate in pharmacology, was from Placerville, California, in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, the Yale Daily News reported. She graduated from the University of Rochester, in New York, where she met her fiance, Jonathan Widawsky, now a graduate student at Columbia University in New York City, the newspaper said.

The night of Monday, Sept. 14, about 2,000 Yale students, faculty and staff attended a candlelight vigil on the Cross Campus, where the University President Richard Levin said, “Our hearts go out to the family of Annie Le, to her fiance and his family, and to her many friends. We pray for their comfort and well-being, as we honor and remember Annie.”

Staff and students arriving at the Amistad Street building are being escorted to their offices by police officers, and patrols by city and campus police have visibly increased. Mary Miller, dean of students, sent an e-mail to parents of Yale students that said the campus was safe and that last year crime was at its lowest level since 1985.

The murder was the first at Yale since 1998, when Suzanne Jovin, 21, was stabbed 17 times in the head, neck and back about 2 miles from campus. The case remains unsolved, according to stories in the student newspaper.

THURSDAY, Sept. 10 (HealthDay News) -- It's a photo that many credit with helping to end the Vietnam War: A 9-year-old girl, naked and in obvious pain, runs through a street after suffering napalm burns over much of her body.

What the iconic photo -- snapped in 1972 by Associated Press photographer Nick Ut -- doesn't show is the girl's struggle to survive and thrive in the aftermath of that day.

Now 46 years old, Kim Phuc Phan Thai (Kim Phuc to most) spoke recently at a conference of burn survivors and burn care specialists in New York City on the physical and psychological struggle that she went through over the ensuing decades.

"Sixty-five percent of my body got burned," she said in an interview with HealthDay. The third-degree burns left her face untouched but sheared off every layer of skin on her back and left arm, leaving a legacy of permanent scars and recurring pain.

"I should be dead," Phuc said. "I got burned so deep I had to do skin grafts -- mostly from under my leg -- from the 35 percent of my skin that was OK. And from the beginning to the end, including physical therapy, I was in the burn unit in Saigon for about 14 months. And I had 17 operations. But I was spared," she added.

"So now I think, 'I cannot change something that happened to me already. But I can change the meaning."

Healthy eating, exercise and an upbeat attitude help her focus away from the pain when it does come, however. And Phuc said that even the pain has its reward.

"The pain I consider as my protection. It humbles me, and helps me to never take my life for granted," she said. "And to share my story."

Today was heralded by some pessimists as the last day in the history of the human race. Internet chat rooms devoted to the occult have been awash with talk of 09/09/09.

On Tuesday the term 09/09/09 was among the top 100 search terms on Google, with some warning that the world would be sucked into a black hole created by the Cern particle collider in Switzerland, or humans would be hit by a killer outbreak of swine flu.

But at 9am this morning nothing happened, although there is still the possibility that the world could end at precisely 9pm of course.

But so far the most interesting things to have happened have been engineered by marketing companies wanting to benefit from the conspicuous date.

Today sees the release of a Beatles computer game, as well as the release of their digitally remastered back catalogue and the announcement of the new Apple iPod.

A new animated feature film, "9," set in a post-apocalyptic world, will also hit movie theatres in the states as US hotels offer discounts and American county clerks offer special "9/9/09" wedding prices

In the UK, where 999 is the emergency phone number, conspiracy theorists were particularly hopeful that the date would herald the end of the world.

This is despite the fact that the world has endured despite a number of previous dates for Armageddon, including the millenium and 06/06/06.

Though technically there's nothing special about the symmetrical date, some concerned with the history and meaning of numbers ascribe powerful significance to 09/09/09.

Users of the alien-earth.org website combined Nostrodamus, the Book of Revelation and the Mayan prophecies with fears about the Cern Large Hadron Collider in Geneva in their predictions.

But scientists dismissed the conspiracy theories and said numerology and the belief in special dates should be ignored.

Professor Chris French of Goldsmiths, University of London and editor of The Skeptic Magazine, told the Daily Mail: "Numerology, like any other system of divination, has no validity whatsoever with the exception that sometimes your belief that a day is auspicious may affect your behaviour."

"If a deeply superstitious person is anxious about driving on Friday 13th it's possible they may be more likely to crash.

"We are very good at seeking out meaning and patterns in randomness – it's one of the reasons humans are such a successful species. But the price is that we see significance in things that aren't there at all."

The President: Hello everyone – how's everybody doing today? I'm here with students at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia. And we've got students tuning in from all across America, kindergarten through twelfth grade. I'm glad you all could join us today.
I know that for many of you, today is the first day of school. And for those of you in kindergarten, or starting middle or high school, it's your first day in a new school, so it's understandable if you're a little nervous. I imagine there are some seniors out there who are feeling pretty good right now, with just one more year to go. And no matter what grade you're in, some of you are probably wishing it were still summer, and you could've stayed in bed just a little longer this morning.
I know that feeling. When I was young, my family lived in Indonesia for a few years, and my mother didn't have the money to send me where all the American kids went to school. So she decided to teach me extra lessons herself, Monday through Friday – at 4:30 in the morning.
Now I wasn't too happy about getting up that early. A lot of times, I'd fall asleep right there at the kitchen table. But whenever I'd complain, my mother would just give me one of those looks and say, "This is no picnic for me either, buster."
So I know some of you are still adjusting to being back at school. But I'm here today because I have something important to discuss with you. I'm here because I want to talk with you about your education and what's expected of all of you in this new school year.
Now I've given a lot of speeches about education. And I've talked a lot about responsibility.
I've talked about your teachers' responsibility for inspiring you, and pushing you to learn.
I've talked about your parents' responsibility for making sure you stay on track, and get your homework done, and don't spend every waking hour in front of the TV or with that Xbox.
I've talked a lot about your government's responsibility for setting high standards, supporting teachers and principals, and turning around schools that aren't working where students aren't getting the opportunities they deserve.
But at the end of the day, we can have the most dedicated teachers, the most supportive parents, and the best schools in the world – and none of it will matter unless all of you fulfill your responsibilities. Unless you show up to those schools; pay attention to those teachers; listen to your parents, grandparents and other adults; and put in the hard work it takes to succeed.
And that's what I want to focus on today: the responsibility each of you has for your education. I want to start with the responsibility you have to yourself.
Every single one of you has something you're good at. Every single one of you has something to offer. And you have a responsibility to yourself to discover what that is. That's the opportunity an education can provide.
Maybe you could be a good writer – maybe even good enough to write a book or articles in a newspaper – but you might not know it until you write a paper for your English class. Maybe you could be an innovator or an inventor – maybe even good enough to come up with the next iPhone or a new medicine or vaccine – but you might not know it until you do a project for your science class. Maybe you could be a mayor or a Senator or a Supreme Court Justice, but you might not know that until you join student government or the debate team.
And no matter what you want to do with your life – I guarantee that you'll need an education to do it. You want to be a doctor, or a teacher, or a police officer? You want to be a nurse or an architect, a lawyer or a member of our military? You're going to need a good education for every single one of those careers. You can't drop out of school and just drop into a good job. You've got to work for it and train for it and learn for it.
And this isn't just important for your own life and your own future. What you make of your education will decide nothing less than the future of this country. What you're learning in school today will determine whether we as a nation can meet our greatest challenges in the future.
You'll need the knowledge and problem-solving skills you learn in science and math to cure diseases like cancer and AIDS, and to develop new energy technologies and protect our environment. You'll need the insights and critical thinking skills you gain in history and social studies to fight poverty and homelessness, crime and discrimination, and make our nation more fair and more free. You'll need the creativity and ingenuity you develop in all your classes to build new companies that will create new jobs and boost our economy.
We need every single one of you to develop your talents, skills and intellect so you can help solve our most difficult problems. If you don't do that – if you quit on school – you're not just quitting on yourself, you're quitting on your country.
Now I know it's not always easy to do well in school. I know a lot of you have challenges in your lives right now that can make it hard to focus on your schoolwork.
I get it. I know what that's like. My father left my family when I was two years old, and I was raised by a single mother who struggled at times to pay the bills and wasn't always able to give us things the other kids had. There were times when I missed having a father in my life. There were times when I was lonely and felt like I didn't fit in.
So I wasn't always as focused as I should have been. I did some things I'm not proud of, and got in more trouble than I should have. And my life could have easily taken a turn for the worse.
But I was fortunate. I got a lot of second chances and had the opportunity to go to college, and law school, and follow my dreams. My wife, our First Lady Michelle Obama, has a similar story. Neither of her parents had gone to college, and they didn't have much. But they worked hard, and she worked hard, so that she could go to the best schools in this country.
Some of you might not have those advantages. Maybe you don't have adults in your life who give you the support that you need. Maybe someone in your family has lost their job, and there's not enough money to go around. Maybe you live in a neighborhood where you don't feel safe, or have friends who are pressuring you to do things you know aren't right.
But at the end of the day, the circumstances of your life – what you look like, where you come from, how much money you have, what you've got going on at home – that's no excuse for neglecting your homework or having a bad attitude. That's no excuse for talking back to your teacher, or cutting class, or dropping out of school. That's no excuse for not trying.
Where you are right now doesn't have to determine where you'll end up. No one's written your destiny for you. Here in America, you write your own destiny. You make your own future.
That's what young people like you are doing every day, all across America.
Young people like Jazmin Perez, from Roma, Texas. Jazmin didn't speak English when she first started school. Hardly anyone in her hometown went to college, and neither of her parents had gone either. But she worked hard, earned good grades, got a scholarship to Brown University, and is now in graduate school, studying public health, on her way to being Dr. Jazmin Perez.
I'm thinking about Andoni Schultz, from Los Altos, California, who's fought brain cancer since he was three. He's endured all sorts of treatments and surgeries, one of which affected his memory, so it took him much longer – hundreds of extra hours – to do his schoolwork. But he never fell behind, and he's headed to college this fall.
And then there's Shantell Steve, from my hometown of Chicago, Illinois. Even when bouncing from foster home to foster home in the toughest neighborhoods, she managed to get a job at a local health center; start a program to keep young people out of gangs; and she's on track to graduate high school with honors and go on to college.
Jazmin, Andoni and Shantell aren't any different from any of you. They faced challenges in their lives just like you do. But they refused to give up. They chose to take responsibility for their education and set goals for themselves. And I expect all of you to do the same.
That's why today, I'm calling on each of you to set your own goals for your education – and to do everything you can to meet them. Your goal can be something as simple as doing all your homework, paying attention in class, or spending time each day reading a book. Maybe you'll decide to get involved in an extracurricular activity, or volunteer in your community. Maybe you'll decide to stand up for kids who are being teased or bullied because of who they are or how they look, because you believe, like I do, that all kids deserve a safe environment to study and learn. Maybe you'll decide to take better care of yourself so you can be more ready to learn. And along those lines, I hope you'll all wash your hands a lot, and stay home from school when you don't feel well, so we can keep people from getting the flu this fall and winter.
Whatever you resolve to do, I want you to commit to it. I want you to really work at it.
I know that sometimes, you get the sense from TV that you can be rich and successful without any hard work -- that your ticket to success is through rapping or basketball or being a reality TV star, when chances are, you're not going to be any of those things.
But the truth is, being successful is hard. You won't love every subject you study. You won't click with every teacher. Not every homework assignment will seem completely relevant to your life right this minute. And you won't necessarily succeed at everything the first time you try.
That's OK. Some of the most successful people in the world are the ones who've had the most failures. JK Rowling's first Harry Potter book was rejected twelve times before it was finally published. Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team, and he lost hundreds of games and missed thousands of shots during his career. But he once said, "I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."
These people succeeded because they understand that you can't let your failures define you – you have to let them teach you. You have to let them show you what to do differently next time. If you get in trouble, that doesn't mean you're a troublemaker, it means you need to try harder to behave. If you get a bad grade, that doesn't mean you're stupid, it just means you need to spend more time studying.
No one's born being good at things, you become good at things through hard work. You're not a varsity athlete the first time you play a new sport. You don't hit every note the first time you sing a song. You've got to practice. It's the same with your schoolwork. You might have to do a math problem a few times before you get it right, or read something a few times before you understand it, or do a few drafts of a paper before it's good enough to hand in.
Don't be afraid to ask questions. Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. I do that every day. Asking for help isn't a sign of weakness, it's a sign of strength. It shows you have the courage to admit when you don't know something, and to learn something new. So find an adult you trust – a parent, grandparent or teacher; a coach or counselor – and ask them to help you stay on track to meet your goals.
And even when you're struggling, even when you're discouraged, and you feel like other people have given up on you – don't ever give up on yourself. Because when you give up on yourself, you give up on your country.
The story of America isn't about people who quit when things got tough. It's about people who kept going, who tried harder, who loved their country too much to do anything less than their best.
It's the story of students who sat where you sit 250 years ago, and went on to wage a revolution and found this nation. Students who sat where you sit 75 years ago who overcame a Depression and won a world war; who fought for civil rights and put a man on the moon. Students who sat where you sit 20 years ago who founded Google, Twitter and Facebook and changed the way we communicate with each other.
So today, I want to ask you, what's your contribution going to be? What problems are you going to solve? What discoveries will you make? What will a president who comes here in twenty or fifty or one hundred years say about what all of you did for this country?
Your families, your teachers, and I are doing everything we can to make sure you have the education you need to answer these questions. I'm working hard to fix up your classrooms and get you the books, equipment and computers you need to learn. But you've got to do your part too. So I expect you to get serious this year. I expect you to put your best effort into everything you do. I expect great things from each of you. So don't let us down – don't let your family or your country or yourself down. Make us all proud. I know you can do it.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister dies in a chopper accident. He is the latest in the long list of politicians who died in accidents; Rajesh Pilot, Sanjay Gandhi, Kumaramangalam, Madhav Rao Scindia, Actor turned politician Soundarya… the list is long.

Apparently the weather must have been the villain though the real cause is yet to be ascertained. The questions which arise are, 1. Whether the chopper was properly maintained. 2. What was the assessment of the weather before take off? 3. Why communication with the chopper was not possible? 4. Why it took 24 hours to know the fate of the chopper?

It is common that political and administrative expediency often overlooks safety and security. The pilots are over ruled or persuaded to take off even if they express reservations.

YSR was reported to have been over zealous in implementing government schemes and overseeing them, that he appeared to be a CM who is going to face an election next month, rather than one who won only last month for a successful second term, going by the way he was criss-crossing the State in a feverish pitch.

Rajesh Pilot was rushing to catch a flight after attending a party meeting when he got killed in a road accident. He was reported to have been driving himself at break-neck speed to be in time for the flight.

A random observation; many of the leaders who die from such accidents are from Congress. This doesn’t mean anything anyway.

Thousands die in road accidents every day. Even deaths from swine flu are accidents in a way.

If planets are responsible for YSR’s death, then what about the four others who died with him? Did they all share the same kundli with same configurations of planets in their charts? Is the kundli of the chopper responsible for it to crash? How to determine the planetary chart of an object? Its date of manufacture as date of birth?

Oh c’mon!

How come some people seem to escape accidental death such as a passenger who cancels his ticket in the last minute due to some reason and escapes death from the crashed plane?

There were instances of hundreds who were late for the work and escaped death from the twin tower disaster of 911.

Is our life style responsible for the accidents?

Psychologically speaking, there are 48 laws which govern human life on earth. The Law of Accidents and the Law of Fate are two of them. The more mechanical one’s life is the more are the chances of attracting the law of accidents. When you lead a mechanical life you depend more on outer factors, than yourselves and therefore the chances of accidents increase. The more awareness you have, the more you will be guided by your consciousness and therefore you eliminate accident causing elements from your choices.

With awareness serving you at every moment, you make such choices which take you towards your true fate and destiny.

If the level of consciousness is high your level of being is high and certain problems don’t touch you. This level will take care of your life choices even if you are not consciously contemplating all the consequences of a decision. For instance, you may cancel the ticket of an ill-fated flight for some other reason, but later it may transpire that you were lucky in terms of your life.

For incidents where so many people with diverse levels of consciousness are killed, there is one explanation. When greater forces take over, the smaller fates of individuals are over ruled. For instance, in a recession, even judiciously run businesses suffer.

It would be better to life our lives with more awareness.

YSR chopper found on top of hill 10 km from AtmakurThe Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopters have traced the helicopter in which Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy was travelling. An Air Force official stated on Thursday morning that the chopper has been traced in a dense forest.The helicopter has been located and on top of a hill. The chopper is located at a distance of 40 nautical miles east of Kurnool.The IAF helicopters are circling the area and looking for a place to land. But, the chopper is on top of a hill in a jungle which makes difficult for them to land.When asked if the CM's chopper had crashed, he refused to comment and said he doesn't have enough information yet on the state of the chopper.The para commandos are expected to land on the difficult terrain on top of the hill to find the real reason and to find whether there are any survivors.

Gayatri Devi was admitted to the Santokba Durlabhji Memorial Hospital (SDMH) here on July 17.
“Gayatri Devi, developed gastric problems in London and was admitted to a hospital there. She expressed her desire to return and was flown in an air ambulance to Jaipur. She was in SDMH since then,” an administrative officer of SDMH said.
Gayatri Devi’s death comes a day after the passing away of actress Leela Naidu, both of whom were named by Vogue as amongst the 10 most beautiful women in the world.

In the letter to Doug Sheckler, David Pahl wrote:

These pictures were obviously taken through a peephole or otherwise in a fashion constituting a trespass/assault on the rights of the woman involved. Your continued posting of these pictures are highly likely to render you an accessory after the fact to a criminal act. We hereby demand that you (i) immediately remove these pictures from your site and (ii) disclose to us the source of the pictures. We intend to hold you fully responsible for further display of material that so obviously violates the law.Please confirm by return e-mail that you intend to comply with these demands. In the absence of such confirmation we will assume you are an active and willing participant in these acts.

The solar eclipse on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 is the longest total solar eclipse of the twenty-first century and will not be surpassed in duration until June 13, 2132. Its totality will last for up to 6 minutes and 44 seconds and will be visible in India, some of the Japanese islands, China and Pacific Ocean.

The total solar eclipse which will occur on July 22th, 2009 promises to be one of the best ever. It will pass over some of the most densely populated sections of the planet.

Note that the "most densely populated section of the planet" does not translate into North America. No, it's going to be a treat in India and China and other parts of Asia, though.

Most of the best viewing opportunities will be in China, where some 30 million people will be able to witness the solar eclipse in the coastal cities of Shanghai and Hangzhou alone.For those not in that part of the world, how to see July 2009's total solar eclipse? Well, in the US, some observatories will have events around the eclipse. For example, Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles will be having an event starting late Tuesday afternoon (yes, that's the 21st, but remember the International date line; that's the 22nd in Asia).

Here are the details on watching the solar eclipse: Griffith Observatory will be presenting its live webcast from 5:24 to 8:03 PM on July 21st, 2009. Here is a schedule of what you will see during the event:

5:24 p.m. PDT = First contact (when the moon first begins to obscure the sun)

6:37-6:43 p.m. PDT = Totality (when the moon completely covers the sun)

8:03 p.m. PDT = Last contact (when the moon no longer obscures the sun)

Where: The webcast will be shown on a large screen in the Gunther Depths of Space room.

Michael Jackson’s personal maid dashed into his bedroom in the superstar’s mock-Tudor mansion at Neverland, his ranch-cum-children’s fairground, and frantically snatched up the sheets, pillows, bedspreads, towels and dirty clothes – anything that might implicate him.

Then she loaded all his make-up, eyeliner, lipstick, creams and gels into a box. ‘My job was to hide all the bottles of women’s perfumes. Michael only used female fragrances, not male, and I guess someone thought that might look bad.’

What he was interested in, however, and was absolutely open about, was his love of children. He made no secret of his feelings.

Asked about the possibility of having children of his own, he shook his head. He might adopt, but he would not procreate. ‘I don’t have to bring my own into the world,’ he said uneasily.

The ruling is a partial victory for Savana Redding, who had been summoned from her middle school classroom and was asked to strip down to her underwear as school officials searched for prescription strength ibuprofen.

The decision could redefine student privacy rights and outline important guidelines for school officials as they seek out dangerous contraband, like drugs, weapons or alcohol.

An 8-1 majority of the Court found that the search was unconstitutional. Justice David Souter, writing for the majority said, "Savana's subjective expectation of privacy against such a search is inherent in her account of it as embarrassing, frightening, and humiliating. … Here, the content of the suspicion failed to match the degree of intrusion."

By late Monday, emergency crews had switched to recovery operations after halting rescue efforts.One of the dead was the operator of one of the trains, transit authority officials said. The National Transportation Safety Board was investigating.The crash occurred just before 5 p.m. on an above-ground track in the District of Columbia near the border with Takoma Park, Maryland.

Both trains were on the same track, and one of them was stationary when the crash happened, said John Catoe, Metro general manager.

A total of 76 people were treated for injuries at the scene, including two with life-threatening injuries, said Chief Dennis Rubin of the Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department for the District of Columbia. Two of the injured were emergency responders, Rubin said.Four people were taken to Providence Hospital in Washington, including two with back injuries, one with a hip injury and one complaining of dizziness from hitting her head, hospital officials said.

President Obama issued a statement saying that he and the first lady were "saddened by the terrible accident," and thanking first responders "who arrived immediately to save lives."

Jodie Wickett described feeling a bump on the track, then being flung forward when the train suddenly halted a few seconds later. She said she hit her head, but managed to get out and go to where the collision occurred a few cars up, with one train car atop another.

The Federal-State Extended Benefits program has been expanded from a maximum of 13 weeks up to a maximum of 20 weeks in Minnesota, according to the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.
Extended benefits combined with the earlier federal emergency extensions means that some unemployed workers may be eligible for up to 79 weeks of payments.
“These additional weeks of extended benefits will provide people with extra financial help while they look for work,” DEED Commissioner Dan McElroy said. “This is an important safety net for Minnesota workers and their families.”
Under the expanded Federal-State Extended Benefits program, the first week payable is June 7, 2009; benefits for that week may be requested during the week of June 14, 2009.
Unemployed workers who exhausted the Federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation program after March 29, 2009, may be eligible for these additional weeks of benefits. The weekly benefit amount stays the same.

Nick Griffin has led the British National Party - BNP to controversial victories in the European elections, winning its first two seats.
Cambridge University-educated Mr Griffin cuts a figure which at first sight appears far removed from the skinhead stereotype of the 1970s far-right activist.
Articulate and always in a suit, Mr Griffin embodies the BNP's controversial attempts to legitimise itself as a credible political force since he took the helm in 1999.
Over the past decade he has tried to portray himself as a mainstream political leader, apparently modelling his party's image on the successes of Jean-Marie Le Pen in France and the late Jorg Haider in Austria.
The strategy apparently proved successful, with BNP candidate Richard Barnbrook elected to the Greater London Assembly last year and Mr Griffin winning one of the party's first two seats in the European Parliament today.
But only last month, Mr Griffin was forced to bow out of attending a Buckingham Palace garden party, after the controversial invitation led to London Mayor Boris Johnson and senior members of the GLA accusing the BNP of exploiting the situation for publicity.
Those who claim the party's image makeover simply masks its old-style thuggish core say you need look no further than the hulking bouncers who surround him everywhere he goes.
One commentator called him "the most dangerous figure on the far right of British politics since Sir Oswald Mosley". Mosley was the founder of the British Union of Fascists in 1932.
Mr Griffin, who was born in 1959, has a long history in British politics dating back to the height of the National Front (NF) as a feared organisation in the 1970s.
He was reportedly first exposed to the far right when he was taken to an NF meeting by his Tory councillor father when he was 15.
Mr Griffin became an activist while he was studying law at Cambridge and had a long involvement with the organisation during its most notorious period. He is alleged to have once travelled to Libya on a fundraising mission.
He left the NF in 1989 and joined the BNP in 1995, soon editing its magazine. Mr Griffin became known as Holocaust Denier, once describing the Holocaust as "the hoax of the 20th century".
In 1997 he co-authored a pamphlet about Jewish conspiracies to brainwash people in Britain and was found guilty of distributing material likely to incite racial hatred.
He was given a two-year suspended prison sentence.
In 1999 he ousted the far-right stalwart and BNP founder John Tyndall from the leadership and set about his attempts to portray the organisation as a haven for the disaffected working populations of Britain's cities.
In 2006, Mr Griffin, along with party activist Mark Collett, was cleared of race hate charges relating to speeches he made describing Islam as a "wicked, vicious faith".
Last year, the BNP asked police to investigate after its entire party membership list was published on the internet.
Mr Griffin, who is a father of four, was brought up in north London and rural Suffolk.
As a teenager he won a sixth-form scholarship to a public school in Southwold, where he was one of only a handful of boys, before taking a law degree at Cambridge, where he also gained a boxing blue.
He now lives in a isolated house on a smallholding near Welshpool in mid-Wales with his district nurse wife Jackie.
The couple have been together for more than 20 years and their older children are now also heavily involved with the BNP.

The greater likelihood of suffering a violent crime sets these U.S. cities apart from the rest of the country. Did your town make the list?

In March 2008, Kwame Kilpatrick was charged with eight felonies, including perjury and obstruction of justice. In August, he violated his bail agreement and was thrown in jail. His actions were deplorable for anybody, but Kilpatrick was no Average Joe — he was the mayor of Detroit.

Unfortunately for the Motor City, Kilpatrick, 38, is just one ripple in the area's sea of crime. Detroit is the worst offender on our list of America's most dangerous cities, thanks to a staggering rate of 1,220 violent crimes committed per 100,000 people.
"Detroit has, historically, been one of the more violent cities in the U.S.," says Megan Wolfram, an analyst at iJet Intelligent Risk Systems, a Maryland-based risk-assessment firm. "They have a number of local crime syndicates there — a number of small gangs who tend to compete over territory."

Behind the numbers

To determine our list, we used violent crime statistics from the FBI's latest uniform crime report, issued in 2008. The violent crime category is composed of four offenses: murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault. We evaluated U.S. metropolitan statistical areas — geographic entities defined by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget for use by federal agencies in collecting, tabulating and publishing federal statistics — with more than 500,000 residents.

Record deficits and a crashing economy appear to be taking a toll on the young Barack Obama Administration. The Administration has been talking about hiking income taxes and perhaps instituting a VAT tax.China is also concerned with the mounting deficits in the United States budget. China is the single biggest holder of US Treasury Bonds and is one of Washington's biggest trading partners. The People's Republic has had a burgeoning economy, but is increasingly wary of the falling US dollar.While the exact amount of Chinese ownership of US treasuries is unknown, it is estimated to add up to over a trillion dollars. If China were to call in US guarantees on these bonds, economists fear it could lead to an economic collapse larger than the Great Depression.China has recently expanded its defense budget, ostensibly to keep up with its economic growth. China is reportedly working on its own version of a stealth bomber (the US has the only functioning model) but is lagged by technological defects.On April 1st, President Obama spoke to Chinese Premier Hu Jintao during the G20 Summit. During this meeting, Mr. Hu expressed interest in writing off some of the US debt in exchange for military technology. The President has since referred the matter to Defense Secretary Robert Gates.The Defense Department is reportedly furious with the President's proposal to sell blueprints of the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber to the People's Republic. Gates has flatly rejected the President's plan, but has since been asked to step down if he will not facilitate the process.According to the deal, the United States would sell the plans for the B-2, along with radar-absorbing paints and metals in exchange for $50 billion in debt relief. The B-2 cost the US government $23 billion to develop the bomber in the 1980s.According to the Administration, this proposal will help the United States resolve its debt issues. They point out their belief that the B-2 bomber is "strategically obsolete", according to a source in the White House Press Office. In addition, the source claims that the Chinese would be unable to create their own functioning stealth bomber fleet for "at least eight years."American allies Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea are very wary of the proposal. Koo Syi, a geopolitical analyst from South Korea, points out that this technology could be passed to China's allies. This was the case when Chinese nuclear technology was transferred to Pakistan and North Korea. According to Koo, Obama has rendered US allies' opinions as "irrelevant."While this proposal is controversial, it is not being presented to Congress, where it could meet with stern opposition. Instead, the State Department has been informed to assist the Defense Department with the transfer of materials.
